Nicholas Hotel Beechworth

After purchasing the Hotel in November 2001, great effort has been made by the new licensees in restoring the Hotel to reflect the Victoriana style of architecture, the period in which the hotel was built.
The main bar and the bar in the lounge were re-built in an original style by Kieren Lucas and some of the timbers are original red gum from the bridges on the old Beechworth railway line.
The Hotel Nicholas has two suites decorated in the Art Deco style of the 1930's which reflects the period in which the top floor was originally built. Both rooms have an ensuite, electric blankets, TV/DVD player, central heating/airconditioning, tea and coffee making facilities, access to a private balcony and the upstairs Art Deco Parlour. Children are welcome and a porta cot, high chair and stroller are provided.

Smiths Vineyard Beechworth

Established in 1978, Smiths Vineyard is the oldest vineyard in the Beechworth wine region.
The site overlooks the majestic vista of Mt Buffalo and the Victorian High Country.
Our method to making great wine is simple- let the vineyard do the talking. We have a philosophy of minimal impact viticulture.
We work hard to show the “terroir” of our region - our soil, climate and altitude. Old World techniques with a new world look.
Beechworth is situated at elevation on the continental side of the Victorian Alps. This allows for warm, sunny days to reliably ripen the crop, as well as cool nights, which temper any heat and produce wine grapes with natural balance and elegance.
The home vineyard sits at 550 metres above sea level, and it produces minerally, textured wines that just keep on giving!
Come and visit us anytime or during Spring Migration 2009.

Beechworth Ghost Tours (get a group of friends together and have a ball here)

Beechworth is known for its amazing stories and rich colonial history. Join our local guide to lead you on the Beechworth Ghost Tour through the halls and secrets of the former Mayday Hills Lunatic Asylum in the grounds of La Trobe University at Beechworth.

As the dusk settles overlooking the township of Beechworth you will be led through the distant and deserted buildings of what once was one of the three major asylums in Victoria. 'The Beechworth Lunatic Asylum' as it was originally named was built during the height of Beechworth's gold rush period in 1867 and operated until it's closure in 1995.

You will go deep into the heart of the old hospital and experience the rooms and their mysteries that have been been sealed for over 30 years. Hear the stories, tales and myths that have led to this amazing tour and discover what life was like living and working in the institution during the 1860's.

This tour is more than just a 'Ghost Tour', but then again... will you see something during your tour?
